McKayla Rose Maroney retired from artistic gymnastics and became a singer. She took home the silver and gold medals in vault competitions for both the American gymnastics team as well as The Fierce Five in the Summer Olympics in 2012. Early life. McKayla Rose Maroney is the daughter of Erin Maroney and Mike Maroney. (died 2019.) McKayla is born of Irish Catholic descent. It was a brief time she lived on her own in Topeka but felt haunted with memories of being exiled from her home and church. Her parents, two sisters and brother were part of the church, but broke all ties with her.
